One room for the people who record sounds and the people who cut them.

Ledger is the librarian editors and sound designers work in all day. It knows every sound, and when the sounds they need are not on their drive, Ledger puts yours on display.

Why Ledger

Ledger is a modern librarian for sound. It understands language and knows what every recording sounds like without reading its label, so an editor holding up a search term or a sound finds what resembles it, or what complements it. The experience is focused on creativity. And when the sound they need is not there, Ledger introduces candidates that bring your sounds directly in front of those looking for them: heard in the same list, bought in the same window, spotted into the session without leaving the flow. Sounds are found for how they sound, next to the sounds an editor already trusts. Nothing rests on how carefully a file was named years ago, and nothing ranks the sounds but the search itself.

1

Found by how it sounds

Ledger's search engine hears your recordings. It describes every file from its audio, section by section and in two independent ways, and matches sounds by comparing those descriptions rather than their names.

Editors search in three ways. They type what they need. They hold up a sound and ask for more like it. Or they ask what goes with it: the layers, textures and room around a sound, suggested from every library. Your recordings are found for what they are, whenever they match the circumstance, and better placement cannot be bought.

2

How editors audition your sounds

Editors audition picked excerpts, never full files. When a search reaches one of your sounds, the engine plays the segment that matched best, faded in and out, so the editor knows exactly what they are getting. A different search can pick a different segment of the same file.

Every file is excerpted this way, and an excerpt is for listening only: it cannot be spotted, dragged into a session or saved. Using a sound means buying it.

Full listens are your choice, per library: whether an editor may hear a whole file before buying, once or twice. Off unless you switch them on.

Updates, delivered to every owner

Send the new version the same way. Ledger compares it with what is live and shows you exactly what was added, replaced and removed. Every owner is notified and their copy updates inside Ledger. A replaced sound arrives alongside the previous one rather than over it, so work in progress never changes.

Launch support for new releases

Tell us a library is a new release and give it a date, and Ledger helps you launch it.

Codes for reviewers and giveawaysUp to 5 per library, from your page, for reviewers, giveaways and competitions. Each gives the whole library free, to keep; a reviewer can claim theirs before the release date, which is the embargo.
An announcement on release dayTo everyone on Ledger's list.
A review video, made by usWe do our best to film a launch review. It depends on timing and circumstances, and our shooting calendar cannot always be rearranged.

Older libraries can go live quietly, as soon as they are ready.

The other libraries and sounds here are invented examples.

  1. Under the editor's own results. Ledger is where editors search their own drives. When the sounds they need are not there, libraries they do not own come up under their own results, in a strip of their own, never mixed in. Opening it shows the sounds.
